Three major events to mark Year of Prayer in 2018

Momentum 2018 - HOPE

The LoveSingapore prayer unity movement is organising three major celebrations this year, calling for the church in Singapore to gather to pray for the country.

The year 2018 has been designated as the Year of Prayer by Bishop Rennis Ponniah, the president of the National Council of Churches of Singapore (NCCS).

In a letter to pastors and church elders, LoveSingapore chairman Lawrence Khong, who is also Senior Pastor at Faith Community Baptist Church, said that the prayer that is sown in 2018 will pave the way for 2019, the Year of Proclamation – a year of personal evangelism.

May we be hungry enough to fast and desperate enough to pray!

This comes as the recent death of well-known evangelist Billy Graham has reignited the call for the church to “return to the soul-winning with renewed vision and vigour”, Pastor Khong said, citing Proverbs 11:30.

The late Graham, on his visit to Singapore in 1978, declared that Singapore is the “Antioch of Asia“, the city from which missionaries are sent.

“I believe the best way to honour Billy Graham is to live that dream and fulfil that vision,” Pastor Khong said. “To do our Father’s will and to finish His work.”

He added that it is a pressing time for God’s people “to unite in fasting and in prayer like never before” as the “enemy will fiercely resist this revival-call to pray and to win the lost”.

3 MAJOR EVENTS ANNOUNCED FOR YEAR OF PRAYER 2018

MAY 1: MOMENTUM 2018

Themed Houses of Prayer Everywhere!, or H.O.P.E., the conference will commemorate the Year of Prayer by focusing on challenging and equipping God’s people to delve deeper into prayer in order to intercede for Singapore.

The aim of the conference is to help attendees develop a closer relationship with God, to create a spiritual awakening in Singapore, and to prepare Christians for evangelism work.

The event will be held on Tuesday, 1st May 2018, at The Star Performing Arts Centre. Admission is by ticket only. For more information, visit lovesingaporemomentum.com

JULY 1-AUGUST 9: SOLEMN ASSEMBLIES

In reference to Joel 1:14, which calls for Christians to gather to repent and ask for mercy, LoveSingapore’s Solemn Assemblies look to bring Christians together to seek repentance for personal, corporate, and national sins, as well as to pray for the salvation of unbelievers in Singapore.

The Solemn Assemblies will be held simultaneously in the evenings across four regions, each led by a host church. It will be in conjunction with LoveSingapore’s annual 40.Day prayer campaign, which will run from July 1 to August 9, 2018.

OCTOBER 7: DAY OF FASTING AND PRAYER

LoveSingapore will organise a gathering for Christians to fast and pray together, seeking the welfare of the nation, on October 7. The goal, drawn from Jeremiah 29, is to intercede for the common good of the country and pray for Singapore’s future.

More details on this event will be announced at a later date.

Pastor Khong called on unity in the wider church in a landmark year. “LoveSingapore will work together with the National Council of Churches Singapore, the Evangelical Fellowship of Singapore and Festival of Praise to make 2018 an exceptional Year of Prayer, with fasting.”

He added: “On our watch, we cannot be casual or complacent. May we be hungry enough to fast and desperate enough to pray! May we unite in prayer like never before!”
